Do You have an air register under your kitchen cabinet?

During construction of your home, your HVAC contractor has no idea where your kitchen cabinets are going to be, or if there are going to be last minute changes in the location of your cabinets.  Sometimes it could be a month or two between the installation for the ductwork and the kitchen cabinets and anything can change.  Most cabinet installers are taught to install the cabinet right over the top of the register hole and install a kick plate register like the one in the picture above.

The results vary but are inevitable.  The space under your cabinet becomes a refrigerator with no insulation or materials to stop moisture condensation.  Over a period of time you will start to see changes in your hard wood floors near the cabinet.  They will start to cup and or buckle.  If you have linoleum, you may start to see discoloration. And if you have ceramic tile, you will start to see the grout cracking.  By this time the damage under the cabinet and to the subfloor that you don’t see are a lot worse.

If you have a crawl space, and the mold has spread to the floor joists and is visible on you insulation.  All your insulation will have to be removed and or replace.  The mold could lead to dry-rot in your subfloor and your floor joists making the fix a lot more expensive than the easy fix that can eliminate the problem right from the beginning of the cabinet installation.

The easy fix is called and under cabinet Toe Ductor.

It is an insulated kit that stops your cabinet from becoming a refrigerator and growing harmful mold in your home.  Mold that will probably go unnoticed for many months or even years before the damage to your home is done, but more importantly the damage to your health.
